Home to the Australian Space Agency, Australian Space Discovery Centre, world-class Mission Control Centre, Australia’s first two launch facility licences, state-owned EO satellite Kanyini and a future common user space assembly, test and integration facility, South Australia continues to add to the nation’s list of space industry firsts.
With more than 100 space-related companies operating in the state and growing, South Australia is a centre-of-gravity for Australian space activity and provides a whole-of-state-government focal point for local industry and international organisations to connect with the state’s burgeoning space sector.
SASIC drives engagement with international partners, providing opportunities for business and research organisations to collaborate with local industry to help realise the potential of the global space sector. On top of this, SASIC works across government and industry to support the next generation of an influential space workforce.

New Space Innovation Fund
The South Australian Space Industry Centre, in collaboration with the Defence Innovation Partnership, has launched a new grant fund to support the rapid transition of space technology to operational use while growing the South Australian space ecosystem through international collaboration.
Australia’s first state satellite
The South Australian Government is partnering with the SmartSat CRC and local companies Inovor Technologies and Myriota to send a locally manufactured small satellite to low Earth orbit — the first State Government to ever embark on such a mission. The SA Space Services Mission — named Kanyini — will strengthen the competitiveness of South Australian businesses in the small-satellite supply chain.
Excellence in Plants For Space (P4S)
The P4S research centre leads Australian leadership, collaboration, and capacity in space-inspired plant and food research and drives transformational benefits for on-Earth industries and sustainability outcomes. Contributing to NASA’s Artemis Accords and led by The University of Adelaide, the centre supports the next generation of space explorers.
Space Manufacturing Capability
The South Australian Government is investing $20 million towards space manufacturing capability, with plans underway to establish a common user space assembly, test and integration facility in the Adelaide CBD which aims to accelerate the development of local space innovation into real world commercial technologies.

Lot Fourteen
Home to the Australian Space Agency, Mission Control Centre, Space Discovery Centre, Defence and Space Landing Pad and so much more, Lot Fourteen is Adelaide’s new centre of innovation and collaboration. The site is also the location for a number of key members of South Australia’s defence and space industry.
Tonsley Innovation District
The Tonsley Innovation District brings together research, businesses, government and the wider community to connect and collaborate in Australia’s most awarded innovation district.
Launch Facilities
South Australia is home to the first two launch facility licences awarded by the Australian Space Agency for the Koonibba Test Range and proposed Whalers Way Launch Complex.
