South Australian artificial intelligence (AI) company AICRAFT has announced its crucial involvement in the UAE-based Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre’s (MBRSC) Emirates Lunar Mission (ELM).

AICRAFT will develop and deliver the onboard computer (OBC) for future MBRSC rovers designed for prospecting locations on the Moon and conducting lunar surface research.

The ELM, launched in 2019, will now use AICRAFT’S innovative OBC on future rover missions to autonomously perform critical mission operations from camera navigation to data analysis and communication.

The OBC will incorporate advanced radiation-hardening technologies and cutting-edge design in both software and hardware to ensure reliable and predictable system performance for the mission’s duration and beyond.

AICRAFT Co-founder and CEO Tony Scoleri said this project exemplifies their commitment to empowering customers with reliable, low-power AI-driven solutions.

“We have worked closely with MBRSC to meet their requirements and come up with a unique OBC design,” Mr Scoleri said. “The specifications are now all set, and we will begin the first prototype board design and manufacture in the coming months.”

Dr. Hamad Ahmad Al Marzooqi, Project Manager of the ELM at MBRSC, said partnerships like the one with AICRAFT are key to the mission’s future success.

“Collaboration is a key aspect of MBRSC’s approach to advancing space exploration, enabling us to integrate the best technologies and expertise into our missions,” he said.

This partnership not only marks a significant milestone for AICRAFT but also underscores its position as a global leader in AI-driven space exploration technologies.
