The 10th Australian Space Forum was held on Wednesday 25 November 2020 in an all virtual format.

Supported by the Australian Space Agency and SmartSat CRC, the 10th Australian Space Forum attracted over 1200 registrations and was presented in an all virtual format due to COVID-19 implications.

The virtual Forum was a high calibre, international event with word-class speakers participating from across Australia, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom. Topics included International space trends and collaboration; Gravity Challenge; The evolving venture capital investment model for deep tech; and the SmartSat CRC and Defence collaboration on the STaR Shots Strategy.

Special highlights

  • Launch of the Andy Thomas Space Foundation; championing industry, advancing space education and raising space awareness across the nation. The Foundation will support a number of space activities and initiatives, including the Australian Space Forum.
  • Release of the official Australian Space Forum app which will be a valuable resource for all future events.
  • The announcement of the Next Generation Technologies Fund – providing up to $6.6m for industry and academia to develop an innovative ‘space qualified’ Radio Frequency (RF) sensor payload as part of the Space Capabilities priority area.
  • South Australia’s Defence Innovation Partnership announcing 3 space projects being funded through their Collaborative Research Fund Round 4 by SA researchers and entrepreneurs at Lux Aerobot and UniSA.
  • The University of Adelaide announcing the establishment of The Andy Thomas Centre for Space Resources – spearheading the optimisation of sustainable use of off-Earth resources.
