The Space Industry Work Experience Program is aimed at inspiring secondary school students to pursue STEM careers and provides a unique opportunity for them to gain a greater understanding of the state’s vibrant space ecosystem.
Developed in collaboration by the South Australian Space Industry Centre (SASIC) and the Department for Education’s Advanced Technology Program (ATP), the work experience program offers students personal insight into the space industry, as well as an understanding of the skills and qualifications needed.
Since it was established in 2019, 48 students have participated in the program, landing placements in leading space industry companies and research institutions across South Australia. Over this time, student participants have been exposed to variety of challenging and rewarding experiences, ranging from planning for deep-space communications and mining asteroids in a laboratory, to designing a Mars rover.
Applications for Space Industry Work Experience Program are open to South Australian secondary school students who are currently 15 years of age or older. Applications will close at 5.00 pm on Wednesday 17 November 2021.
With the calibre of students participating in the program increasing each year, South Australian space companies joining as host organisation are in the box seat to showcase the expansive pathways and space roles available right here in South Australia, helping develop and inspire the future workforce.

Placements for round three of the Space Industry Work Experience Program, will be undertaken during South Australian school holidays periods between November 2021 to July 2022, with students to work alongside a mentor at an SA space host organisation for two to five days (depending on host capacity).
