South Australian space and defence companies are invited to participate in the inaugural Space Business Growth Seminar, delivered by the Australian Centre for Business Growth, taking place in Adelaide on 23 April.

Designed for CEOs and founders, the seminar will support businesses to explore bold growth strategies, sharpen strategic positioning, and plan for sustainable growth.

The program is fully subsidised by the South Australian Space Industry Centre to support the scaling and growth of South Australian defence and space SMEs.

Eligibility

This program is open to:

  • South Australian-based companies
  • Small to medium enterprises (5–199 full-time equivalent employees)
  • Space and defence companies undertaking activities in the space sector

Turning space ambition into scalable growth

Jill Dewey, co-founder of ESpy Ocean, has experienced first-hand the challenges and opportunities of scaling within the space industry.

While familiar with business growth, Jill notes that operating in the space sector requires a more disciplined and strategic approach.

“The space world is different. The nuances that come with that are a little bit more challenging at times,” Jill said.

At a critical stage of growth, ESpy Ocean joined the Australian Centre for Business Growth’s program to bring clarity and structure to their next phase.

“We’re in a phase where we need rapid growth,” Jill explains. “We wanted to map out a clear plan and learn from other founders because that’s incredibly valuable.”

As a previous participant, Jill recognises the program’s point of difference: rigorous, university-level learning combined with practical application.

“We knew it would be at a higher level than many other accelerators. That depth really matters when you’re making decisions that shape the future of your business.”

Building capability for scale

Scaling remains one of the most challenging phases for growing businesses.

Through the program, participants gain insights from both experienced facilitators and peers who have navigated similar challenges.

“Scaling is where a lot of startups struggle. It’s a critical phase, and we need to understand how to do it effectively,” Jill said.

“The discussions help us understand how others have approached scaling and what’s worked.”

From strategy to implementation

The Australian Centre for Business Growth’s programs are designed to deliver clear, evidence-based growth strategies that can be immediately implemented.

“We have a strategy on paper that we’ve presented and tested,” Jill said. “It’s something tangible we can take back to the team, share with investors, and build on over the next five years.”
