South Australia’s reputation as the nation’s space capital continues to grow, with Adelaide-based Myriota marking a major milestone – 10 years of innovation in satellite connectivity and space technology.

Founded in 2015 out of the University of South Australia’s Institute for Telecommunications Research, Myriota has evolved from a local start-up into a global leader in remote Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity.

Originally established to create reliable, affordable connectivity to the Internet of Things for industries such as utilities, logistics, Defence, agriculture and environmental monitoring, the company has stayed true to its mission. Today, it operates one of the most advanced satellite constellations managed by an Australian organisation, delivering services to more than 200 customers across North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

From a team of three in Adelaide to more than 75 employees across 14 locations worldwide, Myriota’s growth reflects the strength of South Australia’s space ecosystem. By 2026, the company expects to employ nearly 100 people as it expands into Southeast Asia and Africa.

Eric Palermo, Head of the Australian Space Agency, credited Myriota with advancing Australia’s sovereign space capability.

“Myriota was part of a cohort of companies in the mid-2010s that stimulated the growth and development of the commercial space ecosystem we have today. What’s impressive over these ten years is they are now delivering global services from one of the most complex satellite constellations an Australian company is operating today,” he said.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, Myriota has announced the Myriota Impact and Access Fund, designed to support students from remote and regional communities pursuing tertiary studies in STEM fields, with a focus on space science, engineering and environmental monitoring.

The fund will provide annual grants of up to $7,000 to assist with relocation, accommodation and study expenses. Recipients will also benefit from mentorship with Myriota engineers and scientists, curated experiences across the space sector, and priority access to paid internships. Applications open in 2026 for students commencing studies in 2027.

Myriota’s decade of success demonstrates the opportunities available in South Australia’s thriving space industry, an industry that continues to attract global attention and create high-value careers.
