South Australian satellite manufacturer Inovor Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese space technology company SpaceData Inc. to explore new commercial opportunities in Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Domain Awareness (SDA).

The agreement was signed during the SPACETIDE 2026 conference in Tokyo earlier this month.  It reflects the growing strategic partnership between Australia and Japan in space and security and highlights the important role South Australian companies are playing in supporting international collaboration and responsible space operations.

Under the MoU, Inovor Technologies and SpaceData will explore new services using space-based SSA and SDA data, support future joint projects and proposals, and grow their presence in the Australian and Japanese markets.

SSA and SDA capabilities are becoming increasingly important as the number of satellites and the volume of space debris in orbit continue to grow. These technologies help monitor objects and activities in space, reduce collision risks and support the safe, secure and sustainable use of the space environment.

Based in Adelaide, Inovor Technologies designs, builds, tests and operates small satellites for government, defence and commercial customers. This includes the development of Hyperion, a planned space-based SSA/SDA satellite constellation designed to observe objects from low earth orbit through to geostationary orbit.

Building on the complementary strengths of both companies, the agreement is a strong step forward for Australia-Japan space cooperation and reinforces South Australia’s position as a national centre for satellite manufacturing, space technology and international collaboration.

The MoU was supported by the Space Industry Association of Australia and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, that are focused on helping Australian space companies build meaningful international partnerships and access new overseas opportunities.
