South Australian company Myriota’s quest to go global has ramped up with the firm establishing its first North American operation.
The Adelaide start-up, based at innovation neighbourhood Lot Fourteen, will expand into Canada after signing a deal with satellite data services company exactEarth to acquire four satellites and global network of ground station assets.
Founded in 2015, Myriota is fast becoming a global leader in nanosatellite Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and this acquisition will boost the company’s capability to deliver low-cost satellite connectivity to a range of industries.
South Australian Space Industry Centre Chief Executive Richard Price congratulated Myriota on its recent acquisition of exactEarth assets and expansion into Canada.
“Myriota is a great South Australian success story and it’s fantastic to see the company now making an impact on an international scale,” Price said.
“The confidence shown by Myriota during these challenging global business conditions is uplifting.”
Myriota CEO and co-founder Alex Grant said the move will accelerate the company’s international expansion plans and grow its North American footprint.
“It will add industry-leading capabilities in key areas such as satellite operations, engineering and spectrum management from an experienced team, and will fast-track our development with established ground facilities and ground stations,” Grant said.
“Canada’s geography, scale and economic footprint share many similarities to Australia; making it a perfect location for our team to grow and rollout our low-cost, secure direct-to-orbit satellite connectivity.
“The increased capability generated because of this acquisition will also allow us to provide 24-7 operations from our offices in Australia and Canada.”
exactEarth’s CEO Peter Mabson will continue in his role as Chairman of Myriota’s board; supporting Myriota to build relationships within the Canadian space industry post-acquisition.
“Myriota is a company that exactEarth has invested in and one that we have built a strong business relationship with, and we look forward to continuing to support Myriota’s growth.”
