South Australian-based Nova Systems has officially opened the Nova Systems’ Space Precinct outside Peterborough in the state’s mid north.
Located on a 21-hectare site, the unique ground station facility holds world-leading technology connecting satellites to Earth.
The precinct supports the Australian Space Agency and will cater for data download needs of satellites and constellations. Nova has also signed a new landmark collaboration agreement with European space company, Leaf Space who have installed an additional terminal at the site.
Chief Executive Officer of Nova Systems, Jim McDowell, says it is a critical element of our space ecosystem.
“It provides vital in-country capability, a critical element of Australia’s industry ecosystem and has been designed for the international space market,” said McDowell.
“We have invested more than half a million dollars into Peterborough since we commended operations in 2019 and are delighted to be working closely with Peterborough Council and the community to contribute to generations of innovation and growth in the district.”
Whilst supporting international ground stations for Nova System clients, including Leaf Space (Italy), the precinct is also reserved to house the Passive Array Sensor solution as part of their offering for the Defence Space Situational Awareness Project JP9360. In addition, the precinct accommodates elements of the Nova Systems’ Autonomous Intelligent Ground Station System (NAIGS) being developed as part of the Space Industry Responsive Intelligent Thermal (SpIRIT) Satellite Project.
“The continued development and future success of the Peterborough site is a testament to our space capability, made up of satellite communications and space specialists working at the forefront of industry,” said McDowell.
“Our team has a broad range of skills that cover the gamut of design, engineering, integration, installation, launch, communications, test and commissioning.”
